King of California

Patrick and I rented a movie on a whim yesterday evening called King of California. It's by the makers of the acclaimed film Sideways, which I've never even seen. But if you HAVE seen it, maybe it will lend me some credibility.

So, the basic plot is Miranda (Evan Rachel Wood, Across the Universe) has been living on her own in California for two years while her father is institutionalized. She's now 16, dropped out of school and working at McDonald's to pay the bills when her dad Charlie (Michael Douglas) is released from the mental hospital. He tries to convince his daughter that there is Spanish treasure buried under the local Costco.

This is one of those movies that has the perfect balance of tragedy and comedy, with fabulous performances delivered by Douglas and Wood. Just see it.

And can I just say, Evan Rachel Wood is beautiful?
